DNS Lookup Service

This service allows you to perform DNS-lookups via simple HTTP requests, receiving your results back as JSON-encoded objects.

The most basic usage example would look like this:

$ curl http://dns-api.org/$type/$host

To discover which hosts handle email for the gmail.com domain you could make the following request:

IPv6 lookups work exactly as you would expect, as does the lookup of TXT results too:

Rate-Limiting & Abuse-Protection

Clients are limited to 200 lookups per hour, and clients who are abusive or otherwise greedy will be blocked with no notice.

If you rely upon this service than you should consider installing your own instance, as this is not a commercial service with any guarantee of availability, reliability, or accuracy.
